Avoiding the cause

Blog postings are most often random thoughts, and compared to writing that is more technically based, there is typically less data to support whatever the author is trying to say.  This post is no different.  In the future, I hope to be a bit more detailed and scientific for an article on our Bronconation newsletter, but for now, here are some thoughts on a subject that I have serious opinions on.

  There are many outstanding Docs out there - I go to a few myself, I just don't agree with the ones who treat symptoms over causes.  Why?  Because the symptom didn't create the problem. Take for example a woman (or more to the point, a young girl or teen) who complains of hip or knee pain.  Doctors are quick to prescribe some type of therapy that will directly treat the area, or worse, some type of medication.   THIS IS WRONG!  Cassidy Phillips, my pal who owns TP Technologies in Austin Texas points out correctly that it is the cause that needs to be addressed.  WHY does it hurt? And WHAT is causing the pain? 

In the case or our female with hip pain, the likely causes are sittng position and /or high heels.  So, why don't more Docs point this out?  They either really don't know (which I doubt) or, they aren't willing to waste their time. Let's face it, how many folks are going to make the necessary lifestyle changes that address the real issues? From what I have seen, not many.  It's easier to pop a pill. I don't really believe that there are alot of bad Doctors out there.  I just don't think thay want to go out on a limb for patients who aren't willing to peel back the layers and get to the cause.   

Ask your Doctor, Chiropractor, even your trainer or Yoga instructor , WHY something might be hurting? WHY do I choose the foods I eat? And WHY is my cholesterol high?   And then be prepared to listen.   

Just some thoughts here...

  • pullup 8 / pushup  16                                                               
  •           6/12
  •           4/8  
  • do this without rest; then rest one minute followed by 8 pullups / 16 pushups   

          rope pull up 8 / chest dip 16 x3 (no rest in between sets)

          seated row 16 / decline pushup 8 x3 (no rest in between sets).

 Follow this with series of plank exercises....

Leg workout of the day

BARBELL SQUAT     3 x 10    Pyramid the weight up; aim for bodyweight final set

DUMBBELL BENCH SQUAT TO OVERHEAD PRESS     3 x 10   Pyramid weight up

ONE CONTINUOUS SET OF 30 DB SQUATS, BROKEN DOWN AS FOLLOWS:

                     10 with lateral shoulder raise; 10 regular db squats; 10 with lateral shoulder raise

ONE CONTINUOUS SET OF 30 DB SQUATS, BROKEN DOWN AS FOLLOWS:

                      10 with single db front raise (between legs); 10 rear delt raise w/o squat; 10 with single db front raise

STEP UPS ONTO BENCH (standing so you are parallel to bench, not facing it) - with single dumbbell -

                      10 on each leg with as little rest as possible --- 3x
